Not sure about your size?
The size chart helps, but what really matters is the actual fit: the shape of your foot and the last of the model.
Here we explain how to measure your feet at home, identify your foot type, and understand how our models fit so you can get it right the first time.

Quick Method (paper + wall)

  • Place a sheet of paper on the floor, against a wall.

  • Put your heel against the wall and your foot on the sheet.

  • Mark with a pencil the tip of your longest toe.

  • Measure in cm from the edge of the sheet (wall) to the mark.

  • Repeat with the other foot. Use the larger measurement.

Template Method (downloadable)

  • Print at 100% (do not “fit to page”).

  • Check the 5 cm box.

  • Place your heel on the line “Heel here” and read the measurement.

  • Download PDF template

Identify your foot type

  • Narrow foot → Best with narrow lasts or adjustable styles (buckle, elastic). Avoid very wide toe boxes.

Wide foot → Look for a wider last, rounded/almond-shaped toe, soft materials. Avoid pointed toes and rigid sides.

High instep → Styles with generous cut or elastic inserts. Avoid very closed cuts without elasticity.

Narrow heel → Best with ankle straps, slightly higher cut, or non-slip insoles.

Bunions (hallux valgus) → Wide toe box, soft or elastic materials, seams away from the bunion. Avoid rigid materials or seams directly on top.

Plantar sensitivity / fascia issues → Cushioned insoles and soft materials; avoid very hard soles.

How to use this guide on product pages
For each model you will find clear indications to help you choose better:

  • Suitable for: recommended foot types (narrow, wide, high instep, narrow heel, bunions, plantar sensitivity).

  • Last: narrow, medium, wide, or anatomical.

  • Fit notes: practical tips (e.g., “stretches to width”, “if between sizes, choose the larger one”, “suitable for insoles”).

These indications complement the size chart and your cm measurement, helping you get it right the first time. If you have doubts about your specific case, write to us at info@ateliercosta.com or on WhatsApp: (+34) 698 967 661 and we’ll be happy to advise you.

Materials: what to choose and what to avoid

Materials: what to choose and what to avoid

In contact with your skin (linings). Recommended by Atelier COSTÀ.

  • Leather lining: breathable, regulates moisture, adapts to the foot.

  • High-quality breathable microfiber (PVC-free): vegan option with good comfort and ventilation.

Avoid:

  • Low-quality synthetic linings (non-breathable plastics): cause sweating, chafing and odor.

In our product pages we always specify: “Lining: leather” or “Lining: breathable technical microfiber”. If a product page does not specify the lining, please ask us.

Upper (exterior) and adaptability

  • Canvas (cotton/linen): fresh, slightly yielding; ideal if you want softness or have bunions/wide feet.

  • Nappa leather: soft, molds to the foot; excellent for daily wear.

  • Suede: very flexible and gentle with sensitive areas.

  • Elastic fabrics / knit: maximum adaptability (bunions, high instep).

  • Winter – natural wool: warm and breathable; better than synthetic wools.

Use with care:

  • Patent leather or very thick leathers: less flexible; may press on the foot.

  • Very pointed toe boxes if you have wide feet/bunions.

  • Hard internal seams over sensitive areas.

Insole and contact with the foot

  • For plantar sensitivity or long hours: cushioned insole (e.g. memory foam) lined with leather or breathable technical microfiber.

  • In espadrilles, if your skin is extremely sensitive, choose models with a lined insole to avoid direct contact with jute.
Still, jute softens as you wear it, and in summer it keeps your feet cool and sweat-free – we recommend it unless you have significant sensitivity issues.

Outsole and base

  • Natural jute with vulcanized rubber sole: flexibility and grip.

  • In winter, combine with natural wool linings for thermal comfort.

Eco-responsible materials: how to evaluate them

Being “eco” should never sacrifice comfort. Check for:

  • Real composition (clearly stated: leather, cotton, linen, technical microfiber).

  • Breathability and flexibility (key for comfort).

  • Origin and processes (e.g. responsible tanneries; low-impact dyes/finishes).

  • Durability and reparability (a shoe that lasts is the most sustainable).

  • Avoid PVC in direct contact with skin.

Our advice: choose natural materials for skin contact. And if you prefer vegan options, go for high-quality breathable technical microfibers or simply jute. At Atelier COSTÀ, we believe comfort and sustainability should always go hand in hand.
