Craftsmanship

The craftsmanship behind every pair.

It all starts with the material. Jute, textures and colours, then the hands that assemble and stitch. At Atelier COSTÀ, traditional espadrille techniques give rise to footwear in which the construction is part of the character — handcrafted in Spain, made to order.

Materials

All our footwear is built on a jute sole. It begins as a jute braid, coiled and stitched into the shape of the sole: this is what gives the espadrille its natural texture and recognisable look.

  • The braided jute sole

A plant fibre, braided then stitched: a light base with a natural feel, which can also come in colour.

  • The uppers

Leather, suede, velvet, canvas or wool depending on the model: each material changes the character of the same silhouette.

The Craft

In traditional espadrille craftsmanship, the hand remains the main tool. Our footwear follows these techniques: the upper is hand-stitched to the jute sole with a needle, along its edge.

  • Hand-stitching

Stitch by stitch, the upper is sewn to the sole. This visible seam is the signature finish of a handcrafted espadrille.

  • Assembly

For wedges, the upper, straps and jute sole are assembled in the workshop, step by step.

Made to Order

We do not produce for permanent stock. Each run is developed and made in Spain for a specific professional project: the private label collection of a brand, a boutique or a concept store.

Comfort

Beneath the insole of our footwear, we add a layer of memory foam. It brings softness underfoot while keeping the look and lightness of the jute sole.

Frequently asked questions

What does Atelier COSTÀ make?

Handcrafted jute-soled footwear — espadrilles, wedges, mules, loafers and slippers, for women and men — developed and made in Spain, to order, for fashion brands, boutiques and concept stores.

How is your jute-soled footwear made?

The sole begins as a coiled, stitched jute braid. The upper — leather, suede, velvet, canvas or wool depending on the model — is then hand-stitched to it, following traditional espadrille techniques.

Where is it made?

All our footwear is handcrafted in Spain, made to order.

What does hand-stitching bring?

It joins the upper to the sole stitch by stitch and gives each pair the characteristic finish of a handcrafted espadrille.

Is your footwear comfortable?

A layer of memory foam sits beneath the insole for added softness underfoot.

Do you manufacture for other brands?

Yes. We develop and make private label collections to order for fashion brands, boutiques and concept stores, starting from our models.

How do I start a private label project?

Tell us about your project through the contact form: we review it with you, then a paid sample lets you approve every detail before production.
